Academics

Mary, Mother of God School is an independent elementary
school with a unique and challenging curriculum offered in small
classes, where
each child is known and loved as an individual and receives the kind of
personal attention necessary for success in school and fulfillment in
life.
Our teachers participate in ongoing
pedagogical and
spiritual formation, and they strive to be witnesses of faith to their
students. They are in regular
communication with parents regarding the children’s progress and any
areas of
concern.
There is a school uniform for students in
grades
1-8. Students follow a structured day,
and all grades can expect an appropriate amount of homework.
Language Arts are literature-based, and also
include reading
(listening and comprehension), phonics, spelling, grammar, and writing
(creative and expository). Mathematics
is taught through problem-solving, drills, memorization, mental math,
speed
tests, and the use of manipulatives,
especially in
the primary grades.
Evaluation is
based on class participation, projects, oral presentations,
homework, and tests.
We maintain
contact with many of our graduates, who have proved well-equipped to
succeed in
a variety of high school environments, often earning secondary and
university
scholarships.
